dachstein park

it´s been a month without any news from my side… so here we go: it´s spring time and I´m “zapping thru” the slushy parks around. I´ve been to Kaunertal, Hintertux and just came back from Dachstein where the Superstar Session was going on… the parks are in a really good shape and fun to ride. good that is was snowing a lot before. besides snowboarding I´m killing time while writing my thesis (which should be done in about 1,5 month), go biking, swimmming and to the gym mostly with lisa, BBQing, and all the nice stuff you can do when the sun it shining: let´s say enjoy life! in 2 weeks I´m off to LA only for 3 days for the 686 ad campaign!! jippieee smile

Back from Hintertux

Hi. I’m back from Hintertux and it was amazing! First two days the weather was great and the park was perfect. Next day we stayed at home, because it was snowing very hard. On Thursday it was still snowing but it was a little bit better so we went to ride some fresh powder and we tried to find a natural spine but we simply couldn’t, because it was too fogy. Friday we woke up at 6.30 and the weather was not good so we stayed in the apartment and at 9.00 it got better. It was sunny. We went up for a ride. My best friend and me and Pucko were riding powder with Grega, while the others stayed in the park with Ico. At first we were jumping off a cliff, doing some front flips and some nice powder turns. Than we found a perfect spot for a backcountry kicker. We were building it for about an hour. The kicker looked like some roller and it was just great. I was the first one, who tested it with some backside3’s, but I landed on my back. The next jump I did a backflip tailgrab and pulled it away clean. I had some problems with a third jump though. I took more speed and I over rotated a back flip. That’s, when I started thinking about double back flips, which I had in my mind for a long time now. I tried to do it and I’ve realized I’m very close so I tried it again and again and I finally made it and, oh man…it was a sick feeling. I was very very happy. I landed it two times and we have it on a tape…....

avalanche

It`s been a while. I hope everybody is enjoying spring time! March and April have been great, I was in the States with my film crew La Famiglia. We were filming around Lake Tahoe for the movie WhiteEver, which will be coming out with Playboard next season. A bunch of guys and one girl together in a big house, it was awesome. We also visited the South Shore Soldier camp at Heavenly. They had a pretty fun set up and barbecue. After I went to Canada for a Helly Hansen shoot which was happening in Selkirk, interior BC. I didn’t expect anything because it was already end of March, but we were lucky and got really good powder and also the sun came out every day. It was a pretty relaxed lodge, good food and the cats drove us everywhere. Siiiiick! Happy happy puppy!

Then I went back to California and joined in for the MS Superpark session from Snowboarder at June Mountain. Crazy setup with gap jumps and a quarter-hip-stepup-waldride building. Great job they did and just for the girls! Then I went with Conny for some days to LA, checked out the beach, went shopping and had a fun time out. And you know what: my sister Sabrina is qualified for the Olympics in Judo!

Whoohoooo! Last weekend I visited her with my mum in St. Moritz. We went on some tours in the mountains. Innsbruck is also pretty enjoyable right now, friends, mt biking, learning to play the guitar and getting the spring riding on.

Last time I updated this blog I a sitting on a sweaty noisy plane on my my way to the US for the Ultimate Boarder Competition( snow, surf ,skate) Well, here is how it went for me…. I landed in Reno Airport very late, almost midnight. I went to pick up my luggage, but my laggage was not there…and the competition was the next morning. So after talking to the Airline, they promised to send it straight to Tahoe next morning in time for the competition. Full of hope that my bag would make it in time, I went to my car that was parked on the airport since last time in USA, I put in the key and turned it around…nothing happened, battery was dead. This was not my day! I fianlly got someone to help me start the car, and I drove to lake tahoe. When I woke up the next morning I still did not receive my bags, and the competition was about to start. I ended up riding the contest on borrowed bindings, boots and clothes….it did not go well, I fell on every run, one time actually before the jump! Hip hip hurray!

After the contest I met up with Vianney Tissau, and we where hooting in Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows for one week. I also teamed up with Torstein Hoorgmo, Juuso Lavisto and Chaz Guldemond for a session on some really good jumps in Alpine together with Standard films.

The last 2 days I have been in LA, visiting my shoe and boot sponsor Etnies and 32, I stayed with my team manager Eddie Lee, and been surfing 2 times a day. It was really good to jump in the water after a long winter season!

Now I am sitting in the Lufthansa Lounge in LA airport LAX, using the internet for what its worth and eating as much free food as I can…and maybe tasting a glass or two of some sleepy wine. Its pretty funny to look at all those business people sitting here in their suites writing important Emails, they just don’t look too happy. They should just snowboard more is what I am thinking.

But season is far from over….I will get only one day in Norway before I will jump on a new flight and go to north of Finland for a Storbis film shoot. I will also go to Hemsedal and Stryn in Norway…..and after that to Mt Hood. So there is plenty of fun to come!

It is me again. Well…tomorrow I am going to Hintertux glacier as we start with the training for the upcoming season. Can’t wait! But what I really wanted to say is that the season 2007/08 turned out very well for me. I have learnt plenty of new tricks and started to jump on some really big kickers. My coach made a short promo of my riding, you can check it out, if you want.

Last week I was on a waiting period for some powder runs and especially some sun. In between there was a really warm period that I used to do some surfing in the Adriatic Sea.

My filmer Basti Funk and Helge Zirkl from Playboard also joined the quest. We got two days of waves in Croatia. Now back again waiting to do some back country action. Have fun. Matevz

been a while,

hi everybody, i know it’s been a while since I blogued in but the past few weeks have been crazy. So After pressing the reset button at home for 2 weeks in Whistler, I went straight to Mammoth for the Roxy Chicken Jam and then MIss SUper PArk. The Roxy wasn’t the perfect Mammoth weather that we love so much. we had a few days of high winds and had to cancel qualies and do the pipe all in the same day in Saturday. Things went pretty smooth all day and we just did one big finals with 20 girls or so. I ended-up winning Best Trick with an Alley-oop Rodeo so that was pretty sweet. we kept things pretty mellow as we were living 4 in our little Ghetto Room at Motel 6. It was awesome!!! Then we were off to Miss SUper PArk in June Mountain. The first day was pretty mellow as most girls were doing the Slope Style still in Mammoth. We hit the big spine, step-up and made this little wall stall. The next day I had to rush back to Reno with my fellow Canadian partners in crime Sarah and Mercedes to head back to Vancouver to do our Nationals in Cypress. I just had time to hang out with my favorite Chicas Lisa and Conny for about 30 minutes before hitting the road.

So back home again for Nationals and National Selection camp and physical testing and all that great stuff. Yup, you have a hard time getting out of bed after that one. Finished things off with my birthday and party at my house. Ended things by kicking people out at 6am so I guess it was a great time….............

Now it’s almost the end of the Ski and Snowboard Festival in Whistler, AKA drunk party week of the year. So like last year I did the If Ullr was A Girl contest where 16 pro skiers and snowboarder girls meet-up to compete for the grand-prise of $$$$25 000 winner take all. So last Sunday we did Big-Mountain, then Monday pipe contest, Tuesday Slope-style and Wednesday night was the Art and Culture night. So I took home with me the pipe event and Art night with my piano playing during a slide show and then I busted my dance from last year….........it’s on youtube if ever you want to laugh at me…........ So things were looking pretty good and they announced the winner yesterday…....................... 2nd place….............short of 1st by not much but 25 000$$$$$ short. Bev took it home and danced the night away last night.

So pretty bummed, not going to lie but Bev is pretty amazing so as long as she took it home.

Now it’s pipe finals tomorrow and then one last party before leaving for Colorado for a FSM trip. Then I’ll sleep for a while I think. Here are some random pics from my party and the past few weeks. see ya soon. dom

Hey there! I had some pretty relaxed contests these days. First there was the end of season session at my homespot Nordpark/Innsbruck. It was an easy jam session with kickers, some rails and the quater. I made it to the finals although I came nearly 2 hours two late and could only do one qualification run ;-) Finally I came on 7th place. I added a picture from the quater. Second competition was the German Slopestyle Mastership or with other words the final of the Chill and Destroy Tour for which I had a wildcard. The whole thing took place at Weissseegletscher in the area of Salzburg/Austria. We had some great fresh snow and always went powdering between our runs ;-) The set up was kind of funny, because there was no lift in that hill. They had two Sleds to pull the riders back to the top with enormous speed. Well I made it to the 10th place, which is not to bad. After a 21 hours day we gladly arrived back in Innsbruck. Now we are heading for the Spring Classics in Kaunertal and the Dachstein Superpark. See you there Tom

Crazy story!

Last weekend i went to the final contest of the series www.wirschanzen.de. I was standing up there in the start gate. All I knew was that the next ten seconds will show if I’m going to be on the podium, taking home the 7500 EUR motocross machine or not. I had a nice run and I was pretty sure about having placed myself within the top 3. At the end I got 6th, standing at the bar a little disappointed, telling my buddy, what I would have done with all the money, hitting the bar with my fist. It was a real nice party. The next morning, I reallised that my hand was still swollen. In the hospital they told me that it’s broken! – “What, I broke my hand throwing the fist on the bartable?” Yeah that´s it! No more words… Friedl
