Špela Rihar, Winner of the elan chicas notebook competition, visits the elan hq!

After winning our first Elan Chicas Design Contest in April 2009 it was now time for Spela Rihar, from Slovenia to pick up her prize. Her day at the Elan headquarters started with a visit in the Elan office where she was introduced to the whole P.Lab. After checking the actual works and receiving a unique souvenir-package Product Manager Dragan Gojkovic and Marketing Manager Dorothee Cuny attended her to visit the Elan Snowboards factory in Fürnitz, Austria. Here Spela got the one-of-a-kind opportunity to follow the whole process of building a snowboard. She was even able to hand on some steps in the production-process by herself. After the lunch breaks it was time to continue the tour and head to the next stop: the Elan Chicas design agency VBG in Ljubljana. Spela was welcomed by the designers and had the chance for an ample talk about the whole design process of the boards, boots, bindings and all communication material. Loaded with lots of information and fresh ideas it was time for Spela to work on the finalization of the Elan Chicas Notebook. It was her task to set-up the order off all pages for the final production of the exceptional notebook. As Spela is studying design and communication the whole experience at the Elan headquarters was a useful and very interesting experience for her and she was very happy getting this chance.

Elan Chicas Notebook Competition Winner Announced!

Yeah girls and boys! We are very happy to announce the winner of the exclusive Chicas Notebook competition: step forward Spela Rihar, from Slovenia! Honorable mentions, meanwhile, go to our second and third place finishers Alexandra Schleich from Germany and Jussi Lehmuskallio from Finland.

1. Špela Rihar

Launched at the end of last year on www.elanchicas.com the competition invited online visitors to upload scanned images of their favorite diary pages and potentially play a part in the creation of the first ever Chicas Notebook. The added incentive of a free Chicas Notebook for every entrant provided the participants with that extra bit of motivation to get creative.

Three months later and with more than 140 submissions to review, the Elan Chicas team riders broke away from their busy winter schedules to judge the best 20 entries and eventual winner. Chicas team rider Lisa Filzmoser was blown away by the depth and quality of submissions, and said: “Wow! This contest was a great way for girls to showcase one of the many ways they choose to express themselves.”

As our main competition winner, Špela picks up a money-can’t-buy prize for her efforts: a two-day trip to Elan’s headquarters including a guided tour of the factory. She’ll also meet and share creative ideas with designers from the Chicas program before collaborating with them on the design of new graphics that could end up on anything from boards to t-shirts in 2009/2010. And let’s not forget her winning page, of course. Look out for it as a double page spread on the inside front cover of the printed Notebook!

Check all designs at: chicas.elansnowboards.com/chicas_notebook_contest_items/gallery

Thanks to all who entered!

O.U.T contest review

Organizing an O.U.T contest adapted to snowboarding, that was the challenge from the “Wise ride crew” (Brynild Vulin, Bruno Rivoire). It all went down in Chamrousse France on the 24th of February on a very warm Sunday.

The morning started with the AM qualification with a series of impressive tricks: 180°-360°-540°-720°-sw 540-sw 720. And guess what the best AM easily qualified with sw 720.
In the afternoon it was time for the famous OUT contest on a set up composed of a big air and a rail. For the first time the world famous O.U.T contest format, usually challenged by skateboarders, was adapted to snowboarding. The rules are simple but had to be explained for a while.

Riders compete in a group of 3, the one who starts first chooses his obstacle (jump or rail) and announces the trick that he’s gonna do. If he stomps it, the other riders must do the same or they take a letter. When a rider has the three letters from the word O.U.T he is disqualified. Simple isn’t it?

At night the super finale was mainly dominated by the newcomers with a huge baggage of tricks:Gabriel Ribet , Ludovic Bart, Gab Bessy and Eybert Berard . We had seen FS 720 nose grabs, straight back flips, 180 BS double shifty, BS Rodéo indy, FS 720 lien; BS 72 mute ...

In the final two super technical riders where going face to face: Gaby Ribet stomped a SW BS 720 stalefish and Gabriel Bessy managed to do the same spin but missed the grab . 2nd place for him and Gaby Ribet won the first edition of the OUT contest and at the same time took home the 500 $ of prize money.

OUT contest by Bruno Rivoire

On Sunday 24th of February our french team rider and his friends organize the first edition of the “OUT snow contest” taking place in the world class resort of Chamrousse (France).
This is the first time the famous “OUT” challenging well know by all skateboarders is gonna be adapted to snowboarding. The contest format is simple: If you miss the trick that your adversary is pulling you will get a letter; When you have collected three letters you are O.U.T.
The contest is open to all riders, pros or amateurs. The final will take place at night. All riders will be shredding for 1000 $ of prize money and guess what…the best amateur will enter the French team of Elan snowboards. Siiiick!
So if you have a lot of tricks in your pocket or if you just want to join a good session, don’t miss the “OUT” contest and come to Chamrousse

Easyriders Session 2008

You asked for it and we revived it: The Easyriders session is back, better then ever. The session kicks off on Vogel Mountain (SLO), February 23rd and this year the organizers are blowing it out with the best anti-competition categories ever to hit the slopes. They have: limbo carving, highest ollie, best crazy 80’s outfit, best freaking multigrab, oldest action gear, best oldschool to newschool trick, best rider of the day, best/worst accidental bail and much more. Shred the whole day to beats of DJ Dulash, DJ Čaj and crew while the BBQ will be burnin’. Winners will be announced by the end of the day.

The prizes are sick. Sponsoring brands have emptied out their garages and storerooms to help you get tons of fresh gear. So you could very soon own gizmos from brands like: Elan Snowboards, Grenade, Spy, Simobil, Apo, Flow and others. You can even win a free surf camp in Anglet (FRA). And the best thing? EVERYBODY can win something!

Afterparty will take place in Media park, Ljubljana with Wil ridge, Summerwille and MAD CADDIES rocking the place apart! Be sure to sign up at the session to get last minute tickets or low price entrance.

So if you accidentally own a snowboard, even better, if your daddy still owns his skiing outfit from the 80’s, you MUST show up on 23rd of February on Vogel Mountain, Slovenia! Trust us, it will be off the hook.
